Sync your moods with Apple Health State of Mind

Apple Health can store how you feel as State of Mind, next to your sleep, steps and heart rate. Tinge can write there for you: turn it on once, and every feeling you tap becomes a State of Mind moment in Health. This page says exactly what is written, what is not, and how to undo it.

What Tinge writes to Health

With Save to Apple Health turned on under Settings → Health, each tap is saved as a momentary emotion — Apple's term for how you felt at a given moment, as opposed to a whole-day mood. The entry carries the time of the tap, a pleasantness rating that matches the feeling (joy at the pleasant end, anger at the unpleasant end, surprise near the middle) and one label from Health's own list: joyful, grateful, surprised, passionate, calm, angry, scared, anxious, lonely, sad, disgusted or guilty.

A feeling you backfill onto an earlier moment is written with that earlier time, so the Health timeline matches your river. Tinge does not write daily moods, and it does not send the "what's contributing" associations, your notes or your photos — those stay in Tinge.

Write-only: Tinge never reads Health

Tinge asks for permission to write State of Mind and nothing else. It never requests read access, so it cannot see moods logged by other apps, your sleep, your workouts or anything else in Health. Your river is drawn from Tinge's own taps only.

Because it is write-only, the toggle is off by default. Turning it on brings up iOS's own Health permission sheet; if you decline there, the toggle switches itself back off. You can revoke the permission at any time in the Health app or in iOS Settings.

Deleting a tap deletes its Health entry

Undo a burst, swipe a tap away in the day's list, or clear your whole diary, and Tinge removes the matching State of Mind entries it wrote — even if you have since switched the sync off. Tinge only ever deletes entries it created itself; moods written by Health or another app are untouched.

Feelings logged from the widget, Siri or the Action button while the app is closed are queued and written to Health the next time Tinge opens, so nothing is lost and nothing is written twice.

Where to find it in Health

Open the Health app, go to Mental Wellbeing and then State of Mind. Each Tinge tap shows as a moment with its time and label, and Health draws its own charts of pleasantness over the week, month or year — alongside sleep, exercise and whatever else you track. That is the point of the sync: the river for the shape of a day, Health for the long view in one place.

Requirements and limits

The sync needs an iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later and the Health app. There is no Apple Watch app, so feelings are logged on the phone or iPad, not on the wrist. Tinge itself has no server: the Health data lives in Health, the diary lives in Tinge and your own iCloud, and nothing passes through us.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tinge read my Health data?

No. It asks only for permission to write State of Mind entries and never requests any read access.

Is the Health sync on by default?

No. It is off until you turn on Save to Apple Health under Settings → Health and grant permission in iOS's Health sheet.

Will moods from other apps show up in Tinge?

No. Tinge cannot read Health, so its river only contains the feelings you tap in Tinge.

What happens in Health when I delete a tap in Tinge?

The State of Mind entry Tinge wrote for that tap is deleted too. Clear all data removes every entry Tinge ever wrote.

Does the Health sync work with Apple Watch?

Tinge has no Watch app. Entries are written from the iPhone or iPad; Health then shows them on any device that shares your Health data.
