Tinge

A private mood diary with an on-device AI recap

A diary of your feelings is about as personal as data gets. Tinge is built so that it never has to leave your phone: there is no account, no Tinge server and no analytics, and the AI summaries that describe your days are written by Apple's on-device model — nothing is sent anywhere.

Download on the App Store

No account, no server, no analytics

Tinge has no sign-up and no login. Your taps, notes, photos and day names are kept in a local database on your iPhone or iPad. The app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs, sends no usage telemetry and uses no crash-reporting service; it makes no network calls to anything we control, because there is nothing of ours to call.

If you are signed in to iCloud, Tinge mirrors the diary to your own private iCloud database so your iPad can show what you tapped on your iPhone. That copy is held by Apple under your Apple Account, not by us. To keep everything strictly on one device, switch off iCloud Sync under Settings → Data.

Lock it with Face ID

Turn on Require Face ID under Settings → Privacy and Tinge locks when it opens and whenever it goes to the background. It unlocks with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, handled entirely by iOS; Tinge never sees your biometric data.

What the on-device AI does

On a device with Apple Intelligence, Tinge adds a one-line summary under each day and a short recap of the last 30 days on the Wall. Both are written like a quiet weather report — "the morning leaned anxious, the evening settled into calm" — and nothing more. They describe; they do not coach, score or advise.

The day summary is written from the hour-by-hour counts of your feelings, up to six of the notes you attached that day and the day's note. The 30-day recap sees only which feelings you logged on which days — no notes, no photos. Summaries are cached on the device and only rewritten when a day's entries change, so you are not waiting on the model every time you open a day.

Nothing leaves the phone

The writing is done by Apple's Foundation Models framework, which runs Apple Intelligence's language model on the device itself. Tinge does not use a cloud model and has no API key to any AI service; the summaries work in flight mode. If the model is unavailable, the line is simply not shown.

This needs an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence — iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with an A17 Pro or M-series chip — with Apple Intelligence turned on and its model downloaded. On other devices the Apple Intelligence section does not appear in Settings and Tinge works without summaries. The toggle, Day summary, is on by default on devices that support it and can be turned off. Summaries are written in your device's language when Apple Intelligence supports it, and otherwise in English.

Your data, exportable and erasable

Settings → Data exports your whole diary as CSV or JSON at any time: every tap with its time and feeling, every day name and every note. Photos stay in the app. Clear all data wipes the local store and your custom labels, removes the State of Mind entries Tinge saved to Apple Health, and, if iCloud sync is on, propagates the deletion to your other devices. Tinge is free, so none of this sits behind a subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Is my diary sent to a server for the AI summary?

No. The summary is written by Apple's on-device model through the Foundation Models framework. Tinge makes no network request for it, and it works with the internet switched off.

Which devices get the AI summaries?

iPhones and iPads that support Apple Intelligence — iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with an A17 Pro or M-series chip — with Apple Intelligence turned on. On other devices Tinge works without summaries.

Does the AI read my notes?

The one-line day summary uses up to six notes from that day and the day's note. The 30-day recap uses only which feelings were logged on which days, never your notes or photos.

Can I turn the summaries off?

Yes. Switch off Day summary under Settings → Apple Intelligence. The section only appears on devices that support Apple Intelligence.

What exactly can I export?

A CSV or JSON file with every tap (time and feeling), every day name and every note, from Settings → Data. Photos are not included in the export.
