Cultra for Android
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026
For Cultra on iPhone and iPad, see the iPhone and iPad privacy policy.
Cultra (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a museum discovery and visit tracking application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Android app handles your information.
1. Information We Collect
Cultra is designed with a privacy-first approach. All data is stored on your device.
- Visit Data: When you check in to a museum, the app stores your visit date and your optional rating, notes and photos on your device.
- Location Data: The app uses your device’s location solely to show nearby museums and distances and to enable check-in. Your location is processed on your device and is never sent to us. The Cultra widgets show the museums near the last location the app saw. None of this is sent to us.
- Photos: Photos you attach to a visit are stored in the app’s private storage on your device. If you use Import from Photos, the app reads the location and date of the photos you pick, on your device, to suggest past museum visits. On Android 12 and earlier, it reads them for the photos in your library, also on your device. No photo is uploaded or copied unless you attach it to a visit.
- Museums You Add: Museums you add yourself are stored on your device, like your visits. To fill in their city and country, the app looks up the place on the map with Android’s geocoder, which may send its coordinates to Google.
2. Data Storage
Your data — visits, notes, wishlist, the museums you add, and preferences — is stored on your device. If Android backup is on, your visits, wishlist and preferences are included in your device’s backup to your Google account, under Google’s privacy policy; photos move only when you transfer to a new device directly. We do not operate any servers of our own, and we never see or collect your personal data. A summary — your museum counts and the museums near you — is kept on your device for Cultra’s widgets.
3. Data Sharing
Cultra itself does not share, sell, or transmit your personal data to any third parties. The app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs and no analytics of its own; the map, which comes from Google, is described in section 4. If you use Report a Problem or Send Feedback, the app opens your email app with the details filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself; if you do, we receive your email address and what you wrote.
4. Third-Party Services
The app uses the Google Maps SDK to display maps. Google receives the map areas you view and, when you allow location access, your position to show it on the map, under Google’s privacy policy. The Maps SDK also sends Google usage and diagnostic information about the map, such as crashes and performance, with a pseudonymous identifier; Google uses it to provide and improve its maps. When you use directions, the app opens Google Maps or Waze (based on your preference). These apps have their own privacy policies.
Museum images are loaded from publicly available URLs. No personal data is sent when loading these images.
When you tap Translate, the description opens in Google Translate, under Google’s privacy policy. The text is never sent to us.
Requests to rate the app use Google Play’s in-app review.
5. Children’s Privacy
Cultra does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or collect any identifying information.
6. Your Rights
You have full control over your data at all times. You can delete individual visits and photos within the app, or use Settings → Clear All Data to erase everything from your device. Backups in your Google account are managed in your Google account settings.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the app with an updated date.
