Privacy Policy

Overview

Cultra (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a museum discovery and visit tracking application made by TIT B.V. It is designed with a privacy-first approach: all data is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your personal iCloud account. We do not operate any servers of our own, and we never see or collect your personal data.

Information the App Handles

  • Visit data. When you check in to a museum, the app stores your visit date, optional notes, and optional photos on your device.
  • Location. Your device’s location is used solely to show nearby museums and enable check-in. It is processed on-device and never transmitted to external servers. If you turn on arrival reminders, the app also uses your location in the background, through iOS region monitoring, to notice when you reach a museum on your wishlist. The Cultra widgets use your location to show the museums near you. None of this leaves your device.
  • Photos. Photos you attach to a visit are stored in the app’s sandboxed storage on your device and, when iCloud sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account. If you use “Import from Photos”, the app reads the location and date of the photos in your library, on your device, to suggest past museum visits. No photo is uploaded or copied unless you attach it to a visit.
  • Museums you add. Museums you add yourself are stored on your device and synced through your iCloud, exactly like your visits.

Data Storage

Your data — visits, notes, photos, and preferences — is stored on your device. When iCloud sync is enabled (and you are signed in to iCloud), your visits, wishlist, and photos also sync through your personal iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. That data lives in Apple’s iCloud under your Apple ID; only you can access it, and you can turn sync off in Settings at any time. A summary — your museum counts and the museums near you — is also kept in storage that Cultra shares with its own widgets, on your device.

Data Sharing

Cultra does not share, sell, or transmit your personal data to any third parties. The app does not contain any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. If you use “Report a Problem”, the app opens your email app with the museum’s details filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself; if you do, we receive your email address and what you wrote.

Third-Party Services

  • Apple MapKit. Used to display maps and museum locations. Apple’s privacy policy.
  • Directions. When you use the directions feature, the app may open Apple Maps or Google Maps (based on your preference). These apps have their own privacy policies.
  • Museum images. Loaded from publicly available URLs. No personal data is sent when loading these images.
  • Translation. When you tap Translate on a museum description, it is translated with Apple’s built-in Translation feature, under Apple’s privacy policy. The text is never sent to us.

Children’s Privacy

Cultra does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or collect any identifying information.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data at all times. You can delete individual visits and photos within the app, use Settings → Clear All Data to erase everything from your device and your iCloud account, or disable iCloud sync to keep everything on-device only.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
