Which museums are included with the Museumkaart?

The Museumkaart gives you a year of free entry to more than 500 museums across the Netherlands. The hard part is remembering which ones. Cultra marks every participating museum on its map, so you can see at a glance whether your card gets you in — and how many of the collection you have visited so far.

Every Museumkaart museum, on the map

Cultra has data for more than 500 museums that take the Museumkaart, from the Rijksmuseum to the small village museum you would otherwise walk past. Open a museum and the badge Included with Museumkaart tells you straight away; tap it for a short description of the card and a link to the Museumkaart site.

In Search, the Museumkaart chip narrows the list to participating museums only. Combine it with the type filters, sort by distance, and you have a list of the card museums closest to where you are standing.

Your progress through the collection

The Museumkaart appears in your passport as a collection with its own progress ring: how many of the participating museums you have checked in at, out of the total. Open it and the count breaks down by province, so you can see that Noord-Holland is well covered while Zeeland is still untouched.

Every check-in updates the ring on its own. Delete a visit and the count goes back down — the collection always reflects the visits you actually have.

Planning a day out with the card

Browsing the map in a city you are about to visit shows which museums there are included. Save the ones you want to see to your wishlist, and they wait for you in the passport until you get there. The directions button opens Apple Maps or Google Maps, whichever you set in Settings.

At the museum, Cultra notices you are nearby and offers a check-in. One tap, and the visit — with the date, and photos or a note if you like — goes into your passport and into the Museumkaart count.

What Cultra is not

Cultra is not the Museumkaart. It does not sell the card, does not hold it for you and is not connected to the organisation behind it; you still show your own card at the desk. It also does not know a museum's current conditions — some ask you to reserve a time slot, and some charge extra for a temporary exhibition — so check the museum's own website, linked from its page, before you set off.

The participating-museum data comes from public sources and is updated with the app. If a museum joined or left the scheme recently, Cultra may still show the old state; email us and we will correct it.

Only the Museumkaart

The Museumkaart is the one museum pass Cultra has museum-by-museum data for. The map covers 74,000+ museums in 99 countries, but outside the Netherlands it does not tell you whether a city pass or national card gets you in. A museum outside the scheme simply has no pass badge.

Frequently asked questions

How many Museumkaart museums does Cultra have?

More than 500, across all twelve provinces. The exact number is on the Museumkaart collection in your passport, and the collection's page breaks it down by province.

Can I see only Museumkaart museums near me?

Yes. In Search, tap the Museumkaart chip and sort by distance. Add the Visited filter to see the ones you have already been to, or the wishlist filter for those you have saved.

Does Cultra replace my Museumkaart?

No. Cultra only shows which museums take the card and tracks which you have visited. You still need your own card to get in, and the museum decides the conditions on the day.

Does it work for other museum passes?

No. Cultra has per-museum pass data for the Dutch Museumkaart only. For other passes it shows nothing either way.
