Amp as a Tessie alternative: price and features compared

Updated · TIT

Amp and Tessie are both companion apps for Tesla drivers. This page sets them side by side, price for price and feature by feature, as both were published on 9 October 2026 — including what Tessie offers and Amp doesn't. The sources are at the bottom.

Prices on 9 October 2026

Tessie prices each car separately: its plans are per vehicle, for up to five cars. Amp Pro is one subscription for all your cars and everyone who drives them with Amp, with every feature included. Tessie publishes its prices in US dollars, so this table sets them next to Amp's price in the US App Store.

Per monthPer yearLifetimeCars
Amp Pro$3.99$29.99—All your cars
Tessie$6.99 per car$69.99 per car$199.99 per carUp to 5, each paid for
Tessie Pro$12.99 per car$129.99 per car$299.99 per carUp to 5, each paid for

In euros and pounds

The App Store sets prices per country. On 9 October 2026 Amp Pro cost €3.99 a month or €34.99 a year in the euro countries and £3.99 or £29.99 in the UK. For Tessie's base plan, called Basic in the App Store, the Dutch App Store listed €7.99 and €79.99, the UK App Store £6.99 and £69.99 — per car.

Tessie Pro adds, according to tessie.com, detailed battery tracking, Self-Driving stats, Sentry tracking, software update and firmware alert tracking, automations and its OBD profiler. Amp has a single plan.

Amp has no lifetime purchase. Tessie's lifetime price for one car, $199.99, buys more than six and a half years of Amp Pro at $29.99 a year.

Both start with a free trial: 14 days for Amp Pro. Tessie also offers a full refund if you cancel because you're not happy with it.

Example: a household with two cars

Two cars for a year, with two drivers who each use the app. In Amp, one Amp Pro subscription covers both cars and both drivers: €34.99 a year. With Tessie's base plan each car has its own subscription: 2 × €79.99 = €159.98 a year (Dutch App Store prices). In US dollars: $29.99 against 2 × $69.99 = $139.98.

Tessie lets members of a household share one account, so in Tessie, too, the second driver costs nothing extra; the difference is the price per car.

What both apps do

Going by each app's own pages, both offer:

  • Live status streamed from the car, without polling or waking it
  • Remote control of climate, charging, locks and more, from iPhone and Apple Watch, with Siri, Shortcuts, widgets and Control Center
  • Every drive and charging session logged automatically, with tags such as business and CSV export
  • Charging costs at your own rates, and the cost of fast charging billed to your Tesla account
  • Battery health over time, idle drain while parked, and a comparison with a petrol car's fuel cost
  • A Live Activity on the Lock Screen while the car charges
  • Alerts for charging, doors left unlocked, windows open when rain comes, low tyre pressure, Sentry alarms and software updates
  • Automations such as climate schedules (in Tessie, part of Tessie Pro)

What Amp has that we didn't find in Tessie

As far as we could find on tessie.com and in Tessie's help centre on 9 October 2026:

  • Smart charging on day-ahead market prices, or on Agile Octopus in the UK: Amp plans each charge in the cheapest hours before you need the car, and prices charging at home at the price of the hours it charged. Every smart-charged session shows what it saved compared with charging straight away. Tessie's help centre describes charging schedules for set times, such as 12am to 6am.
  • A business trip log with rules: drives tagged automatically by saved places or business hours, missing trips spotted from the odometer, a change history for every drive, locked months and a monthly PDF. Tessie lets you tag drives and export them as CSV.
  • A battery report for selling the car: a PDF with a QR code that opens a published copy, so a buyer can check the figures.
  • Shared cars: assign each drive to whoever drove it and split the month's charging cost by distance.
  • Live-location links that stop working after the time you choose.
  • A demo car to try the whole app without an account.
  • Your data stored in the EU. We found no storage location in Tessie's privacy policy.

What Tessie has that Amp doesn't

If you need one of these, Amp isn't the app for you:

  • Apps for Android, iPad and Wear OS, and a web app for Mac and PC. Amp is made for iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • 21 languages in the App Store. Amp has 6: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Norwegian.
  • Ready-made integrations with Alexa, Google Assistant, HomeKit (through Homebridge), Home Assistant, IFTTT and more, and a documented developer API. Amp has personal API tokens and webhooks.
  • Monitoring and control through AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.
  • Self-Driving stats, a Bluetooth phone and watch key, and real-time OBD-level diagnostics (Profiler).
  • Maintenance reminders, speed alerts, and alerts when the car arrives at or leaves a place.
  • A Fleet plan for businesses, with unlimited vehicles and a fleet dashboard.
  • A lifetime purchase instead of a subscription.
  • One-step imports from several other Tesla apps. Amp imports CSV files.

Switching from Tessie to Amp

Your history can come with you. In Tessie, open Drives, choose Select, Select All and Export to save a CSV file, and do the same under Charges. In Amp, go to Settings → Data & Integrations → Import History from CSV, pick Drives or Charging Sessions and choose the file.

Amp checks the file first and shows how many rows it can import, how many are already in Amp and which lines it can't read; nothing is saved until you tap Import, and Undo Import takes the rows out again. It reads the columns of Tessie's CSV files in miles or kilometres — we checked it against the templates Tessie publishes — and other CSV files whose column names it recognises.

From drives it takes the start and end times, addresses, odometer readings, battery levels and tags such as Business or Personal; from charging sessions the times, energy added, cost, battery levels, location and whether it was fast charging. Routes and idle periods aren't imported, and imported history doesn't count in battery reports.
